Cover Story: China emerges as powerbroker on global diplomatic stage

The different national flags hanging on the light poles at Beijing’s Tiananmen Square since March show the frequency of official visits to China by foreign heads of state, including French President Emmanuel Macron and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

These visits, along with Chinese President Xi Jinping’s recent trip to Moscow and the Saudi-Iran peace deal negotiated by China have advanced the country’s goal of playing a greater role as global powerbroker.
