In Depth: Xiaomi to stay the course on chip design after rival bails

Weeks after the collapse of a rival smartphone maker’s semiconductor unit, Xiaomi Corp. told investors it was still all-in on designing its own chips.

Xiaomi Group President Lu Weibing affirmed his long-term commitment to designing semiconductors at a first quarter earnings call on May 24, acknowledging the device giant had already “paid a heavy price and learned lessons” to pursue that vision.
