The U.S. Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) has successfully completed more than 130 site visits to Chinese companies to verify their reliability as trade partners since October 2022, following a policy shift that prompted faster end-use checks of foreign entities, according to a department official.
U.S. officials were able to get the checks scheduled promptly due to a change the BIS introduced in October 2022 regarding its policy to verify foreign firms’ legitimacy and reliability for receiving U.S. exports including American technology, BIS Assistant Secretary for Export Enforcement Matthew S. Axelrod said Tuesday. He made the comments during a fireside chat with law firm Baker McKenzie and the International Compliance Professionals Association.
