China welcomes cooperation with other countries in the push for global artificial intelligence (AI) governance, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Thursday, while warning against potential moves of setting up technological barriers in the process.

Making a reference to the “small yard, high fence” approach, a strategy adopted by Washington to restrict China’s access to certain technologies, Wang said attempts to use such tactics in AI development will “result in mistakes with historic consequences.”
