Canada’s TikTok ban: TikTok’s Canadian arm has challenged a government order demanding that it shut down its operations in the country as the Chinese-owned company again turned to the courts to fight off government restrictions on its operations. In a filing dated Dec. 5, TikTok requested that the Federal Court of Canada rescind the order. The Canadian government asserted that TikTok-owner ByteDance Ltd. — by establishing TikTok Technology Canada Inc. in Canada — posed “specific national security risks” prompting the government to act based on a national security review. On Monday, TikTok asked a U.S. court to put a hold on a law that could result in a ban in the country.
