The number of people with hypertension is surging worldwide, but the proportion of patients whose condition is under control remains dangerously low, according to a new World Health Organization (WHO) report.
The Global Report on Hypertension, released on Sept. 23, shows that the number of hypertension patients reached 1.4 billion in 2024, yet only about one-fifth have effectively managed their condition through medication or lifestyle changes. The report, the second of its kind from the WHO, was launched at an event co-hosted by the agency, Bloomberg Philanthropies, and Resolve to Save Lives during the 80th session of the U.N. General Assembly.
