Chinese Military Launches ‘Combat-Readiness’ Patrols Around Taiwan

The Chinese military began “combat readiness patrols” around Taiwan on Monday, organizing naval and air forces to encircle the island, according to the People’s Liberation Army’s Eastern Theater Command.
Shi Yi, a spokesperson for the Eastern Theater Command, said warships and aircraft approached Taiwan’s adjacent airspace and waters from multiple directions. The operations are intended to test the troops’ capabilities in rapid maneuvering, multidimensional deployment and systemic containment, Shi said.
