China and Russia united on Sunday to condemn recent U.S. and Israeli military strikes on Iran, with Beijing’s top diplomat characterizing the targeted killing of an Iranian leader as an “unacceptable” violation of international norms, according to a statement released by the Chinese foreign ministry.
The rebuke came during a phone call between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov. The discussion followed an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council held a day earlier regarding the escalating crisis.
