China Proposes Independent Privacy Oversight Committees for Big Tech
Listen to the full version

China’s top cyberspace regulator has released draft rules that would require major technology companies to set up independent oversight committees to monitor their data-collection and privacy practices, tightening official scrutiny of how internet platforms manage vast amounts of personal information.

The draft marks a further step in implementing the “gatekeeper” provision of China’s Personal Information Protection Law, which took effect in late 2021.
