A senior Huawei executive laid out what he sees as the company’s mission for 2019 in an open letter on Weibo Saturday which detailed the embattled telecom giant’s ambitions to dominate several markets in the coming year.
In an upbeat post perhaps most notable for failing to mention Huawei’s recent troubles, Consumer Business Group CEO Yu Chengdong said: "At this critical period of history, everyone has high expectations of us. We understand our responsibility and mission deeply."
Earlier this week Huawei Technology Co. Ltd. Chairman Liang Hua said the company was facing a "crisis of confidence" in the West.
But Yu said Huawei would strive to be a world leader in fifth-generation (5G) wireless technology, artificial intelligence (AI) and the internet of things (IoT) — the super-network in which everyday objects such as mirrors and refrigerators are connected to the internet.
The setbacks look to have had little impact on Huawei's bottom line, and the company expects sales revenue to reach $108.5 billion this year, which would exceed early year targets by 6%.
