A young assistant to JD.com CEO Richard Liu has been revealed to be helping manage 427 JD.com-related companies – 22 more companies than Richard Liu himself participates in the management of, according to Chinese due diligence site Tianyancha.
The assistant, the barely 30-year-old Zhang Fang, represents 195 companies and is an executive of 198. Zhang has working control over 285 of the 427 companies she participates in the management of, the site says – on paper, anyway.
Giving high-level positions to Zhang could be a legal tactic to help ease the pressure on controlling members in JD.com subsidiaries and affiliates, who might otherwise have to spend much of their time approving projects, sources from JD.com told Sina.
Zhang first came under the spotlight on Jan. 24, when JD.com announced that she would serve as the legal representative of a new wholly owned subsidiary of a Richard Liu-led trading affiliate.
Li Yayun, another executive from JD.com, is overseeing 421 related companies, 188 among which Li has working control over.
