Search giant Baidu is combining two sputtering short-video units into one business, as it scraps over market share with mega- rivals Tencent and ByteDance.
The company said Wednesday it had integrated staff from Haokan and Quanmin, its two short-video sites, into one department to be overseen by the former’s chief, Song Jian.
Haokan has some 30 million daily active users (DAU), falling well behind ByteDance-owned Douyin, which had 600 million DAU as of June. One Baidu former senior staffer told Caixin that they thought the difference is too large for Baidu to ever catch up.
