China on Tuesday rolled out its new-generation middle-to-low-speed magnetic levitation (maglev) train, which will be deployed on a tourist route in the southern city of Qingyuan, according to China Daily.
The three-carriage train, which is made by a unit of CRRC, China’s state-owned rolling stock manufacturer, can run at up to 120 kph and transport up to 500 passengers, the report said.
Maglev trains have the edge over regular trains in terms of climbing, turning radius and noise reduction, it added. The shorter the turning radius, the more flexible the railway route will be.
Currently, China is planning to build a higher speed maglev railway line connecting the Pearl River Delta metropolises Guangzhou and Shenzhen, with a top speed of 600 kph.
