New Bail Rules Issued to Protect Suspects From Pretrial Detention

China’s top justice and law enforcement organs released provisions to clarify the use of the “bail pending trial” measure, which assures the rights of suspects eligible for release from pretrial detention.

The new judicial interpretation specified that qualifying subjects are criminal suspects whose release on bail would not pose a danger to society, as a revision to policy from 1999 pertaining to the non-custodial compulsory measure.
