A rundown of the news making headlines in and around China:

China’s nuclear surge: Beijing has signed off on 10 new nuclear reactors using its domestically developed technology, keeping up a pace that’s made the country the world’s biggest builder of nuclear power facilities in recent years. The five projects, the majority of which are expansions of existing plants, are mostly located in the country’s power-hungry coastal regions such as Zhejiang, Fujian and Guangdong provinces. China’s investment in building nuclear power plants hit a record 146.9 billion yuan ($20.1 billion) in 2024, rising nearly 55% year-on-year.
