China’s top anticorruption body said Thursday that it is investigating Sun Shaocheng, a senior Communist Party official long regarded as a political fixer sent to clean up corruption-prone ministries and regions.
Sun, 65, is a member of the Communist Party’s Central Committee and formerly the party chief of resource-rich Inner Mongolia. The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection said in a brief statement that he is suspected of “serious violations of discipline and law” — a phrase commonly used to refer to corruption investigations. He joins a growing list of senior cadres targeted this year, including Tian Xuebin, Li Xu, and Gu Jun.
