Shanghai-based esports event organizer Versus Programming Network (VSPN) has acquired Chinese livestreaming talent agency Famulei for an undisclosed amount in a renewed effort to build a portfolio of esport-related businesses as it expands its global presence.
After the acquisition, Famulei, whose businesses involve esports, entertainment, livestream operation and talent management, will run as an independent brand overseen by VSPN, according to a company statement released on Monday.
VSPN said that the acquisition will help it leverage Famulei’s business advantages to promote influencer monetization and esports content creation as part of its broader goal of generating more market opportunities and creating a sustainable esports ecosystem.
Founded in 2016, VSPN, which is backed by social media and gaming giant Tencent, focuses on organizing esports tournaments and on content creation. It showed its global aspirations in May last year when it launched its first overseas esports venue in Seoul.
Monday’s announcement came more than two months after VSPN bought Banana Gaming & Media, which was created by Wang Sicong, son of billionaire Chinese property tycoon Wang Jianlin, in what it described as a major step in further strengthening its global reach. Also in January, VSPN raised $60 million in a funding round to support its plans to develop esports production technologies, create new esports products and accelerate its global expansion.
