The prestigious Peking University announced on Saturday that it would remove a controversial actor from a post-doctoral program at its Guanghua School of Management.

The decision was made following the Ministry of Education’s Friday vow of “zero tolerance” if Zhai Tianlin was found guilty of academic dishonesty.

Zhai, a film and TV actor who recently appeared at the most-watched annual CCTV Spring Festival Gala, was put under investigation after reports accused him of dishonestly obtaining academic qualifications at Beijing Film Academy and the business school at Peking University. He was also accused of plagiarism.

In a statement, Peking University said Saturday it had confirmed academic misconduct by Zhai, adding that the Guanghua School of Management was also responsible for poor screening in recruiting Zhai as a research fellow in the school’s post-doctorate program.
