The head of a Chinese-language newspaper in California was shot and killed Friday, allegedly by a colleague, who was later taken into police custody.

The shooting took place in Alhambra, California, at the offices of the China Press newspaper, a publication serving the area’s large Chinese community, just a few miles outside Los Angeles.

Police identified the victim as Xie Yining, head of China Press. The newspaper said Xie was from Guangdong province.

The suspect was identified as Zhong Qi Chen (Chen Zhongqi), 56, of El Monte, California, according to the Pasadena Star-News.
