A man who set off multiple explosives Friday at a shopping center in northern China had recently killed a person in a nearby town over what police said was a financial dispute.
After killing that person, the man then drove to Changchun, the capital of Jilin province, and set off a string of explosions at the city’s Wanda Plaza.
The man was the only person who died in the explosions Friday, though another person was injured.
Police said the 56-year-old suspect, from Jiangsu province, had “lost hope for life” after being diagnosed with cancer — a claim that could not be independently verified.
