Didi Chuxing is continuing its fight against Uber abroad.
The Chinese ride-hailing giant is recruiting drivers in preparation for a launch in Colombia’s capital Bogota, Reuters reported, citing a Didi statement.
It’s unclear when operations would begin. Though Uber is popular in Colombia, it operates there illegally, and Reuters quoted the government as saying it would “suspend for 25 years the licenses of drivers caught working for the platform.” But authorities have largely turned a blind eye.
So is Didi quietly opening up shop in the South American country, without official sanction, or has it beaten Uber in getting official approval? At this point, we don’t know.
