Insurgent Chinese e-commerce platform Pinduoduo is partnering with global leader Amazon for online Black Friday sales.
Pinduoduo has set up an in-app Amazon “pop-up store” allowing users to purchase imported goods ranging from skincare products to Nintendo gaming gear, Caixin found Monday. The platform will also offer discounts to users participating in the sales event, which runs from Monday to Saturday.
An earlier Reuters report citing an Amazon statement said the pop-up store will last until the end of the year.
The tie-up between Pinduoduo and Amazon has been interpreted as a check on China’s leading e-commerce players like Alibaba. Two weeks ago, when Alibaba was celebrating record one-day sales figures during the country’s “Double 11” shopping festival, Pinduoduo released no sales data. The company’s share price also plunged after posting widening third-quarter losses.
In April, global giant Amazon said it would shut down its platforms hosting third-party vendors from China and focus instead on imported goods and its cloud business.
